What is Boric acid?
Boric acid is a vaginal suppository used to treat vaginal yeast infections and relieve symptoms such as burning, itching, and/or odor. It also helps prevent bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis (STIs). Sexually transmitted infections are usually cured with antibiotics, whereas a sexually transmitted disease is usually a virus, and there’s no cure for a virus. Most women depend on antibiotics to cure an infection, but antibiotics aren’t always the answer.
Why antibiotics shouldn’t be your first line of treatment? First off, antibiotics kill all bacteria in the body, even the good bacteria. Our bodies need good bacteria to fight off infections, and if you're taking antibiotics all the time, your body will become immune to those medications, and now your body is resisting the medication.
What does that mean when your body is resisting an antibiotic? Let’s say you are prone to getting urinary tract infections (UTIs), and you have prescribed antibiotics every time. Your body no longer has the good bacteria because they’ve been destroyed, so when you start to take the antibiotics for your current UTI, your body won’t fight the infection because the bad bacteria have become resistant to the medication.
That’s when providers or medical advisors inform their patients about boric acid as the second line of defense. As medical professionals, if we are aware of the excessive use of antibiotics, a simple UTI or yeast infection should result in the patient using boric acid as the first line of treatment.
Boric acid suppositories are a crystalline solid substance, that consists of probiotics, Vitamins C and E ingredients; it acts as a strong antiviral and anti-fungal agent in the body. Many women fear the idea of using boric acid in their vaginas because of the many utilizations of boric acid, but vaginal boric acid is strictly for the vagina only. This acid substance helps balance the amount of acidity in the vagina to level the pH and bring it to a neutral state.
